WIC stands for Women, Infants, and Children.  WIC offers nutrition education, breastfeeding support, referrals, and nutritious foods.  WIC saves you money on your food budget.  WIC gives you or your child food benefits every month.  WIC foods/infant formula supplement what you buy for your family.  WIC shows you how to be healthier and eat more healthy foods through nutrition education.  They help you and your family find medical care, and you can learn about other services in your community that might benefit you.  WIC has breastfeeding support and education through Certified Lactation Counselors and Breastfeeding Peer Counselors.

Who may apply? Pregnant women, non-breastfeeding mothers of babies up to six months after the baby is born, breastfeeding mothers up to one year after the baby is born, babies and children under five years old.

How do I apply? Please call 607-746-1700  or  Apply for WIC Online

What is eWIC?

eWIC is an electronic benefits transfer card which eliminates paper checks and provides a more convenient way for families in the Women, Infants and Children program to shop for WIC foods. The new system ,which works like a debit card, will make shopping with WIC benefits more discreet. Participants will have access to nutritious food and the flexibility to redeem benefits as needed.

For more information visit NYS Department of Health

Meet our Breastfeeding Peer Counselors!

Breastfeeding

Our job is to help you identify strategies to help you and your baby to become successful with breastfeeding, as well as provide support and education prior to and after the delivery of your baby.  Along with being a peer counselor, we are also moms who have breast fed our own children and would be happy to answer any questions and concerns you have along the way.

Our first Peer Counselor is Courtney Covell (right).  “I am a stay at home mom with four amazing children.  I’ve given all of my children a healthy start in life by breastfeeding.  My goal as a breastfeeding peer counselor is to listen, encourage and give advice to mothers to help them on their journey to have a successful breastfeeding experience.

Our second Peer Counselor is Santana Brewster (left, with daughter Callie).  "I am a stay at home mom to one amazing little girl, who I've successfully breastfed past a year and plan to continue for as long as I can. My goal as a breastfeeding peer counselor is to, help other mothers be successful in their breastfeeding journeys."

They are both excited to assist WIC moms to have a successful and enjoyable experience.
