Delaware Opportunities Inc. Community Services program is anticipating the need for three (3) full-time HEAP Administrative Assistants (dependent on funding). Two positions will be based at our Hamden location and one position will be based at our OFA location. This position is responsible for conducting HEAP interviews, maintaining accurate program records, responding to questions about available energy assistance programs, and working closely with the Department of Social Services, fuel vendors, utility companies, and other community resources. The ideal candidate will be hard-working, reliable, trustworthy, organized, and comfortable working with the public.

 Job Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct HEAP interviews with applicants and respond to questions regarding HEAP, Weatherization, and other energy assistance programs;
  • Perform accurate data entry and maintain organized program files and records;
  • Work closely with the Department of Social Services, fuel vendors, utility companies, and other community partners;
  • Staff HEAP outreach locations as required and interact with the public in a professional, non-judgmental manner;
  • Assist the HEAP Examiner with developing and maintaining resource files;
  • Perform mathematical calculations accurately as required;
  • Utilize strong computer, data entry, organizational, and communication skills to support daily program operations;
  • Perform general office duties as needed;
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team;

 Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED required;
  • Two (2) years of experience in data entry or general office work;
  • Experience working with the public in a non-judgmental manner;
  • Valid NYS Driver's License required

Schedule & Pay:

  • Full-Time, Seasonal position
  • 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday
  • Pay range: $21.26 - $25.37 per hour (depending on experience)
