Delaware Opportunities Inc. Community Services program is anticipating the need for a HEAP Clerk (dependent on funding) for our Hamden location to assist with the application and intake process for individuals seeking heating and energy assistance. This position is responsible for greeting and registering clients, explaining the HEAP application process, completing computer inquiries and data entry, and providing general office support. The ideal candidate will be hard-working, reliable, trustworthy, organized, and comfortable working directly with the public.

 Job Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Greet HEAP clients, explain the application process, and provide assistance in a professional and helpful manner;
  • Register applicants and complete computer inquiries and data entry accurately;
  • Transmit required client data and applications to the Department of Social Services;
  • Answer phones and assist with general questions and office needs;
  • Maintain organized and accurate records and data sheets;
  • Utilize strong computer, data entry, and organizational skills to support daily program operations;
  • Communicate and work effectively with clients and the general public in a non-judgmental way;
  • Demonstrate integrity, reliability, and the ability to work independently;
  • Perform general office duties as needed

 Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED required;
  • Two years of experience in data entry or general office work;
  • Valid NYS Driver's License required

Schedule & Pay:

  • Full-Time, Seasonal position
  • 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday
  • Pay range: $18.16 - $21.69 per hour (depending on experience)
