QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or GED; and/or

Experience: One year experience in quantity cooking.

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for the buying, preparation, and serving of breakfast and lunch for children, staff and volunteers. Ensure that the performance standards, State and local licensing codes are met.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare breakfast and lunch according to nutritionally approved menus;

Work with parents to obtain nutritional assessments for each child;

Supervise and maintain the kitchen and dining areas to promote good health and nutrition, safety and a relaxed atmosphere;

Adhere to all health and sanitation laws, maintaining a clean kitchen at all times, and maintaining appropriate personal hygiene;

Maintain records pertaining to food service operation;

Purchase and store supplies and equipment for the center, as required;

Attend regular center staff meetings and monthly all-staff meetings;

Participate in planning menus for Head Start meals, preparing foods according to recipes;

Participate in nutrition and other related trainings. Keep an updated training log;

Work with parents, staff and children on nutrition education and activities (parent meetings, classroom, etc.);

Operate and keep equipment in clean, good working condition;

Implement regulations of being a mandated reported;

Work and plan with staff for children and nutrition related problems;

Organize and have written plan for substitute cook and any emergency situations. Conduct training for substitutes;

Provide for having a Head Start child work as a cook's helper, for approximately 10-20 minutes, 2-3 times per week;

Perform other similar or associated duties as required or directed.

Pay: $16.94 - $20.21 per hour
