Delaware Opportunities' Housing and Community Revitalization program is seeking a full time Housing Counselor/Housing Assistant for the Hamden location.

The ideal candidate must be hard working, reliable, trustworthy and ready to work in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Promote housing counseling services through community outreach, advertising, brochures, and public speaking;
  • Provide one-on-one counseling to low-income residents on homeownership, refinancing, rehabilitation and energy conservation;
  • Assist households with USDA loan packaging and connect residents to appropriate financial assistance programs;
  • Serve as a liaison with financial institutions, USDA, and partner agencies to encourage program referrals
  • Support homeowners with technical assistance, including budgeting, contractor selection, and home maintenance planning;
  • Prepare program reports, assist with surveys and intake, and support the Housing Director in implementing housing programs

Required skills include but are not limited to:

  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and explain rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Solid mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Effective public speaking and presentation abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

Experience:

  • Four years' experience in financial or lending counseling or assistance activity

Education/Licensure/Certifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Associate's degree in sociology, psychology, liberal arts, or related field preferred
  • Applicant must pass the HUD Housing Counseling Certification Examination!
