Education: Bachelor’s degree in sociology, psychology or related field and/or Experience: Four years experience in human services SKILLS: Excellent communication skills, ability to read, understand and interpret government regulations; computer skills; ability to relate well to people low income people. REQUIREMENTS New York State driver’s license; personal vehicle required LINE RELATIONSHIP: The Homeless Advocate reports to the Agency Advocate BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for assisting homeless and at risk households in finding and retaining stable housing SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct intake and assessment of clients meeting STEHP criteria, including residents of DSS homeless facilities; Develop action plan for each household outlining services needed to obtain and retain housing; Work in collaboration with the other Delaware Opportunities programs to assist clients in obtaining employment and other needed services including day care, transportation etc. to facilitate implementation of action plan; Maintain client files documenting all referrals and services provided; Maintain at least monthly contacts with all clients engaged in Homeless Intervention program; Enter required information on program milestones in HMIS database. Coordinate with the Fiscal Department to prepare and submit electronic information for billing; Develop and maintain current listing of available housing in Delaware County; Develop relationships with subsidized apartment complex managers to facilitate quick notification of housing openings; Work closely with Delaware Opportunities Housing and Community Development office to maximize client use of Section 8 rental assistance; Work closely with the Delaware County Department of Social Services to obtain referrals of clients, including those housed in DSS shelters; Participate in monthly staff meetings to review activities and accomplishments; Prepare and submit reports to the Executive Director and funding source as required or directed; Perform other similar or associated duties as required or directed. Salary range $21.20-$25.29 per hour. 35 hours per week.
