Delaware Opportunities, Inc. is seeking a full-time Secretary/Dispatcher for our Hamden location. This role combines variety and responsibility, offering both front desk interaction and operational coordination. The ideal candidate will have the ability to pay attention to detail, be hard working, reliable and possess the ability to assist clients in need in a non-judgmental way. Being able to work collaboratively with a team and independently is a must.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Act as receptionist: answer multi-line telephones, take messages, greet clients and visitors, transfer calls appropriately, and provide information about Delaware Opportunities programs and services;
  • Perform transportation dispatching and scheduling duties;
  • Take and process authorized transportation requests from clients, staff, and partner agencies (e.g., DSS, Medicaid, Office for the Aging);
  • Schedule and assign transportation requests and drivers; notify drivers of schedule changes and arrange substitute drivers as needed;
  • Maintain complete client transportation records, including addresses, phone numbers, directions, and other pertinent information;
  • Assist in scheduling transportation services for low-income individuals;
  • Assist the Community Services Director with scheduling driver meetings;
  • Track, schedule, and coordinate required vehicle maintenance and repairs;
  • Ensure all agency vehicles are properly equipped with required folders, documentation, and safety equipment;
  • Post, collect, and file vehicle sign-out sheets;
  • Collect monthly vehicle mileage logs and prepare required monthly trip tallies and reports;
  • Provide drivers with required forms and assist new drivers with onboarding paperwork;
  • Perform other related or associated duties as required or directed

 Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Background in secretarial sciences and/or 
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in secretarial, clerical, and/or transportation dispatching work

Schedule & Pay

  • Full-time position
  • 35 hours per week
  • $19.10 - $22.78 per hour
