Job Summary:

The Head Start Director is responsible for the planning, directing, and administration of the Head Start Program. The ideal candidate must have proven ability in supervision, financial management, and creative problem- solving; ability to read, understand, and implement government regulations, rules, and procedures.

Essential Functions:

· Serve as advisor to the Executive Director in all matters pertaining to Head Start;

· Prepare grant applications and requests for all work programs and prepare and submit necessary budget and work program modifications;

· Ensure that established criteria are appropriately utilized in recruitment and selection of children to participate in Head Start;

· Assure that service area plans are reviewed at least annually and updated as necessary.;

· Direct the hiring process, consistent with personnel policies for all Head Start staff;

· Monitor day-to-day accomplishments of program personnel, conduct regular and periodic sampling checks of all activities assigned to assure performance of subordinates;

· Train and act as immediate supervisor for all component managers and coordinators

· Assure compliance with all applicable guidelines, rules, regulations, and procedures provided by funding sources and Delaware Opportunities in the operation of the Head Start program;

· Ensure that centers meet State licensing requirements and ensure that centers are re-licensed every four years;

· Schedule program activities to assure that all programmatic requirements are met in a timely fashion;

· Devise and implement client tracking and program progress reporting procedures;

· Perform day-to-day activities to supplement any activity assigned to subordinates when such assistance is required;

· Prepare all regular and special reports and submit same in a timely fashion to funding sources, the Executive Director, the Delaware Opportunities Board of Directors and other individuals/groups as required;

Qualifications:

Delaware Opportunities Head Start follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for Head Start workers. This mandate requires COVID-19 vaccinations for personnel working for or on behalf of our Head Start Centers. The New York State mandate allows for medical exemptions and religious accommodations, when appropriate. All candidates who accept an offer from Head Start will be required to show proof of vaccination as required by New York State.

Job Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in education, human services or public administration and two years management experience; and

Experience: Six years progressive responsibility in child development related activities or human services.

Requirements:  New York State driver's license; physical examination and TB test; ability to lift 40 pounds.

Job Details:

· Full-time

· 35 hours per week

· Salary Range: $69,700-$72,835 DOE

· Located in our Hamden Office, but will be required to travel to our Head Start locations

· Monday through Friday 8-4

· $250 sign-on bonus after one month of employment
